Abstract: zaha hadid was invited to give a wonderful speech at tsinghua university. In fact, no matter it is Japan, or the Chinese construction circles, have indescribable complex plot to tie a worker, swear like a tide, and look forward to it can have communication, can even get a signature of her. Whatever the direction of zagong's works, I think she must have a shining light worthy of respect. All we need is to find it in meditation.
In March 2005, between the BMW plant in leipzig, Germany, and the parking lot, stood a factory centre that defied the stereotype of an old, dirty car factory. Zaha hadid, the most famous and feared female architect in architecture today, beat out 207 submissions from around the world in 2001.
The building is BMW's new $1.55 billion central hub for the 3-series.
Construction concept: before the design and construction of the building, there were three disconnected buildings, which constituted the complete production line of BMW 3-series. The three production workshops were designed by BMW's in-house property and equipment management group, which are the preliminary body manufacturing (645,000 sq ft (59,900 m2)), the painting workshop (270,000 sq ft (25,000 m2) and the final assembly workshop (1,075,000 sq ft (99,900 m2)).
The winning bid was for a centralised building that would physically connect three factories. At the same time to meet the management and ordinary staff space. Hadid's design takes the idea of connecting each part of the building. The building provides a platform to connect the factory's assembly line to its employees, with a series of designed repetitive and connected forms. The original idea was to blur all the separate Spaces and make them part of the whole complex, creating a horizontal space for white, blue, visitor and car.
Architecture: a jury of 25 international architects selected zaha hadid's innovative proposal for BMW's leipzig plant in Germany. Without precedent, her centre is considered revolutionary and monumental in a way that only matai truko's fiat lingerto plant and Peter behrens's ge turbine could match.
With a gross floor area of 270,000 square feet (25,000 square meters), the BMW central building occupies only 250,000 square feet (23,000 square meters) of the 540 acres (2.2km2) of the entire plant campus. While serving 5,500 employees, the most important function of the building is to connect the three production workshops. Each day 650 BMW 3-series cars are transported from one workshop to another via a high-mounted conveyor belt through the central building.
The flood of blue LED lights illuminates the car from one workshop to another to become more complete process. The conveyor belt not only moves vehicles from one workshop to another, but also connects all the functional Spaces of the building. It connects offices, meeting rooms and social Spaces, creating interesting relationships between employees, cars and the public.
The building serves not only as a focal point for the factory's office building and public relations, but also as a very important link in the factory's production process. All the load-bearing walls, floors and partitions are made of cast-in-place concrete, while the roof is made of space frame steel beams. The exterior of the building is covered with simple materials such as corrugated metal, u-shaped glass and glass curtain walls.
The building has been nominated for many architectural awards, including the 2006 European RIBA and Stirling awards.
